Musculoskeletal Injuries

There are a few different kinds of injuries we most commonly see:

  • Traumatic (e.g. ACL rupture due to being tackled hard in sport)
  • Non-Traumatic (e.g. Notice shoulder is becoming progressively more uncomfortable in some movements and increasing in pain over a longer period of time, Knee has started to get progressively more of an ache or painful when jogging)

Many people will experience a non-traumatic injury in their lifetime. These can be due to repetitive motions, poor posture, a previous injury that has altered movement patterns, poor form in loading or lifting and a host of other causes.

When we are overloaded with poor movement patterns, the body adapts to handle this stress. Some muscles and joints may start performing roles that they shouldn’t be to pick up the slack from others that aren’t performing as they should. Working overtime is never a permanent solution to a labor problem. People and body parts can pull a little overtime occasionally, but when overtime becomes an everyday event, we see a breakdown. After awhile, the overloaded bodily structures have had enough and will quit which leads to pain and inflammation.

People put a lot of wear and tear on their bodies. Aches and pains are blamed on the aging process but looking closely at injuries, our Exercise Physiologists can identify issues to fix the root of the problem.

After performing a thorough assessment we will find the cause of your discomfort / injury and address this. Some clinics will give you a temporary fix and get you some short term relief (much the same as pain killers can) but this is just treating the symptoms and not the cause. Our assessment will identify the root cause and address this which in turn resolves the pain, discomfort and or movement restrictions.
